Rodriguez is a projectible young pitcher who signed with the Rockies as a 17 year old free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Long-limbed and wiry, it is thought that Rodriguez may not yet be done growing and that his 89-94 MPH fastball could gain a few ticks over the next season or two. Aneury had a solid season in the unforgiving California League this year improving on his ERA and BA allowed. Much of this is due to his continued development of his power curveball and changeup, both of which have the potential to be plus pitches. The main risk factor for Rodriguez right now is his age and the fact that he is a flyball pitcher who will potentially be throwing in a ballpark that is not well suited to pitchers of his ilk. It is of paramount importance for him to develop the changeup into a ground ball pitch. Other than that, Rodriguez is an intriguing power pitching prospect who should form a nice 1-2 punch with ground ball magician Jhoulys Chacin at the front of Colorado's future rotation.
