Jarrod Parker – Arizona Diamondbacks RHP

H/W:  6-2  175 lb.     B/T:  R/R     DOB:  11/24/88

The Diamondbacks aggressively promoted Parker to their full season Low-A affiliate South Bend and Parker performed admirably.  Jarrod compiled a 12-5 record in 24 starts with 33 BB/117 K's in 117.2 IP.  Parker has a nasty 93-95 MPH fastball that he can bump up to 97 MPH at times.  His curveball, with its late sharp break, may be his best pitch.  Additionally, Parker can mix in a hard, mid-80's slider and an improving change.  Some within the system have compared Parker to fellow young flamethrowers Tim Lincecum and Scott Kazmir.  Parker's changeup needs more work to be an effective groundball pitch, though, with the quality of his curve and slider, it's development is not crucial.

2009 Projection: Parker will begin the '09 season with High-A Visalia of the hitter-friendly California League.  Expect Parker to handle this challenge very well with a promotion to AA Mobile being a distinct possibility.  Parker should continue to be one of baseball's best young arms though he is at least two seasons away from Arizona.
