Jon Still – Boston Red Sox C/1B/OF

H/W:  6-2  210 lb.     B/T:  R/R     DOB:  11/16/84

Still had a solid season at Lancaster, though it failed to elicit the same enthusiastic promise that his impressive 2007 season generated.  Still's walk total decreased by almost 40 and his averaged dipped 35 points despite hitting in a very hitter-friendly ballpark.  Still has a thick, muscular build that produces easy HR power.  He works counts well and draws a lot of walks.  Still played at catcher, first base and outfield this season as the organization struggled to find a position best suited for him.  Defensively, Still is not impressive at any position, though his bat mandates that he play somewhere.

This next season should be a challenge for Still as he heads to AA-Portland.  At 24 years old, Still needs to accelerate his development if he wishes to have a chance to play as an everyday player in the major leagues.  Offensively, Still has the potential to put up some good power numbers as a DH or platoon player.  Given Boston's breadth of offensive talent, Still's best shot at getting the opportunity to showcase his abilities will be with another organization.  Let's hope that he can open some eyes in '09 in order to get that chance.
