Schafer had a tumultuous beginning to his 2008 season when he was suspended 50 games for the use of PED's. Upon his return, Schafer struggled leaving many to suspect that his rapid ascension over the past year was chemically induced. Schafer caught stride, though, and finished the AA season with respectable numbers. At his best, Schafer is one of the more intriguing 5-tool athletes in baseball with Gold Glove caliber defense in CF, a lightning quick bat and great base running instincts. Schafer needs to continue to develop his plate discipline as he strikes out too much to be a top of the order hitter, and he will need to continue to prove that he is beyond his use of PED's. Overall, his game resembles that of Grady Sizemore or St. Louis Cardinals prospect Colby Rasmus. Schafer played in the Mexican Winter League this offseason in preparation for Spring Training.

2009 Projection: Schafer picks up where he left off last spring before the PED suspension, as Atlanta's future CF. Schafer has a shot to make the Braves' opening day lineup out of spring, though I think a few final AB's at AAA Gwinett will be a more likely destination.
